Hey, have you ever heard about The Double Ninth Festival? It’s a traditional festival in China. The  “double nine” in the name refers to the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. In fact, in China we usually call it “Chongyang”, because according to the <I Ching>, a sacred book of Taoism, nine is the yang (from “yin” and “yang”) number. And “chong” means double.
The Double Ninth Festival is to bless the aged people to live longer. The number “9” in China has the same sound to the word “long”.
This festival has a long history. The earliest record can be found in The Three Kingdoms period (about AD220~280). On the day of The Double Ninth Festival, people climb the mountains and wear a plant “Zhuyu”. On this day, people eat the “Chongyang cake”, enjoy chrysanthemums, and drink wine which is made from chrysanthemums. Chinese people think all these activities can get rid of evils. Flying kites is also a traditional activity.

There are lots of Chinese ancient poetry about this festival. The most famous one is WangWei’s “Double Ninth, Missing My Shandong Brothers”.

As a lonely stranger in the strange land,
Every holiday the homesickness amplifies.
Knowing that my brothers have reached the peak,
All but one is present at the planting of zhuyu.

Light your life up

Have you ever had a setback in your life? What do you do when you feel blue? Move on or stay the same?

My father’s best friend’s son killed himself four years ago. He jumped off a building because his parents didn’t allow him to marry with the woman he loved. He was in despair. But many of us will think,  “Why did he kill himself ? ” There must be many ways to figure the problem out. But, none of us could be him, we can’t know what he thought or felt. The only thing we can be sure is he despaired enough to end his life, no matter how many people cared about him.

What I want to say is when you lose your hope, you can’t see light, you can’t find the exit, everything will be covered with gray. And when there is no hope, there is no dream, only the nightmare that you can’t walk away from.

But if there is hope, everything will be changed. No matter how difficult your position is, you can cross it. Hope is the fire that lights our lives up. With it, you won’t lose your target. With it, you won’t get lost. You may fail, you may be sad, you can cry like a baby, but never ever give up hope. As long as you harbor hope, tomorrow will visit you with a smile. Like the story about the king of Scotland-Robert Bruce, you may fail, but if you harbor hope, you will win tomorrow.

I believe in hope. Only the one who moves on, can reach the goal he or she wants.  Happiness won’t visit the one who stay as they are. As the famous lines said “Tomorrow is another day”. No matter what happened, we should always remember, the sun will still be able to rise tomorrow.

Hello everyone, I’m Wang He. I feel lucky because I can study English in Damon’s class with my classmates who also chose it. It’s a happy English class, we can practise our English by making podcasts. It’s wonderful, isn’t it?

And…em…let me start my self introduction. My name is Wang He. I’m a chinese girl. I came to Japan to continue my school life. I like reading books, listening to music, watching movies, drawing comics…and so on. You see, I’m the kind of person who is always intersted in many things. Many people think it’s better to have only one or two hobbies. They think people like me just means no hobby. But I can’t agree with them. If you have many hobbies, you can talk with many people much easier. And, as we know, hobbies can teach us a lot. There is knowledge everywhere, and to learn more is always better. People be born into the world to learn things and have fun from it, it’s what I believed.

I said a lot, but it seems like I didn’t say many thing about myself. But,is there any way better than to know a person by talking with him or her? And, I think you can know something about me by what I said.

See you.
