Hello, I’m Wang He.
Hi, I’m Mizuki
Welcome to our first show.
As we all know, the World Cup is the most popular thing now.
Yeah, that’s why we want to introduce to you the country-Paraguay!!!
The Republic of Paraguay is a landlocked country in the middle of the South America. The aborigine in this country is the Guarani. It became a colony of Spain in 1537. And then independent on May 14th 1811.
The flag of Paraguay consists of three horizontal stripes – the top stripe is red, the middle one white, and the bottom stripe is blue. In the middle of the Paraguay flag and white stripe there is an emblem.
The population of Paraguay in 2009 was about 6.3 million. 95 percent of them are mestizo, which means the people of mixed Spanish and American aborigine. And 5 percent are Indians and the white man. Spanish and Guarani are their official languages. The largest city in Paraguay is Asunción, which is also its capital.
So, we have got some basic information about Paraguay.
And, here is something helpful to you, if you go to Paraguay for a trip.
The climate in Paraguay is very interesting, autumn and spring do not really exist. Because from October to March is summer, and winter from May to August. April and September are transitional months in which temperatures are below the midsummer averages and minimums may dip below freezing.
And when you meet a person from Paraguay. You may say “mucho gusto” . It’s Spanish which means “Very glad (to see you)”. And talking about politics is unwelcome. One of the best topics is the Itaipu Binacional Dam which was built by Paraguay and Brazil. The quantity of electric charge generated by Itaipu is the largest in the world. Paraguayans are proud of it.
The largest? Wow, cool.
Sure, they should really be proud of it.
Yeah, the thing is cool, but it’s so hot here. Would you like to have a cup of terere?
A cup of what?
TERERE!
Wh…what is it?
It’s the most popular drink in Paraguay! It’s a type of cold tea, and Paraguayans drink it every day, everwhere.
Sounds great! Do you know anything else about the food in Paraguay?
Sure! The two ingredients, that make the base for the gastronomy of Paraguay, are cassava and corn. Cassava is helpful to make the traditional chipa of Paraguay. And corn is also very helpful to make many dishes like Paraguayan soup. They are eaten almost everyday by Paraguayans, and most of them grow from their land.
Oh, you just make me hungry!
How about go to lunch?
Good idea. So, guys we have to go, what do you think about this show? Tell us.
And this is just something basic about Paraguay. In fact, there are many other things interesting about it.
Yeah, like their amazing harp skills, and interesting festivals. It’s a pity that we can’t introduce everything about Paraguay in one show.
So, if you want to know more about it, tell us. We can do the second one.
Yeah! And thank you guys.
Thank you for listening.
