This summer is too hot every day, but I like summer because there are many festivals in summer. I’m going to introduce summer festival of my hometown in Tochigi prefecture. Have you ever heard about “Yamaage-matsuri”?

Yamaage-matsuri is held every July and it’s famous for its Kabuki Pageant performed by the citizens of the city. This year we celebrate the 450th anniversary. It means the festival has been held for 450 years! Each year the assigned town members perform Kabuki (Japanese traditional play) on streets. They construct the stage just before their performance, and lift up the background made of washi, Japanese paper.

It descends from an ancient rite that the dedication ceremony of the shrine, and pray for exterminate plague.

Lots of people visit there to see the Kabuki Pageant. But many young adults and children enjoy Strolling the streets.

I had enjoyed going to Yamaage-matsuri every summer since I was an elementary school student.
